Pennsylvania Station

This ghastly building (part of Madison Sq Gardens complex) replaced the glorious 1910 structure, modelled on the Roman Baths of Caracalla.

Its destruction in 1963 created an outcry, sparking new landmark laws' to protect other architectural gems.
