Read Cafe, Williamsburg (Sadly closed in 2007)
Our favourite Brooklyn cafe at 158 Bedford Avenue, between N8th and N9th

A few pictures from our favourite cafe in Williamsburg.
The Read Cafe is a short walk up from Bedford Avenue subway station (head towards Greenpoint). It's quite small inside, but there's a backyard that's pleasant in the summer.
There's a PC for web surfing by the window and loads of magazines in racks on one of the walls, along with a couple of local free mags and fanzines. You can buy the mags too but we reckon most people just enjoy a free read.
The baristas hard at work! For some reason, there always seems to be a lot of hat wearing going on behind the counter.
Artist at work!
The atmosphere is always friendly and it's a great place to relax with a book or a paper and a cup of coffee.
Their sandwiches and soups tasted great and the bagels definitely rocked my world - the cafe became a regular breakfast stop-off during our stay.
Dude!
As well as magazines, there's a ton of used books lining the wall. There's also occasional music evenings.
Important note: under pressure from rising rents due to encroaching gentrification, the Read Cafe closed some time in 2007. We're sorry to see it go.
