Christ Church, Oxford University Originally founded by Cardinal Wolsey in 1524, the college was re-founded as a University College and the Cathedral of the new diocese of Oxford by Henry VIII in 1546. The college has produced many famous alumni, including Sir Christopher Wren (who designed the bell tower in 1682), John Wesley, W.H. Auden, Albert Einstein and 13 Prime Ministers. As it is both a Church and a College, the head (the Dean) is always a clergyman. [Oct 2003] all photos©urban75 2003 |
