Cricket on the 'North Inch' park, scene of the 'Battle of the Clans' in 1396.
This saw thirty representatives from Clan Quhele do battle with Clan Chattan, watched by King Robert III and his court from Gilten Arbour, a nearby garden. Records vary, but Clan Chattan is understood to have emerged victorious.

Built in 1749-50 at a cost of £1,614, the King James VI Hospital is a H-shaped construction on four floors.
Over the years, it served as a poorhouse, industrial school, infirmary and reformatory for vagrants.
From 1814, the building was used by charity schools and other benevolent institutions, with portions let out as dwellings. A complete refurbishment followed in 1975, with 21 flats being created.
The striking St. Leonards-in-the-Fields & Trinity Church on Marshall Place is built in the late Gothic revival style and features a the distinctive crown tower and heavy buttresses.
