Block the Bridge [Part One]
UK Uncut action on Westminster Bridge in protest of plans to privatise the NHS
(© urban75, Sunday 9th October 2011)
Thousands of protesters assembled on Westminster Bridge to protest against the government's attempt to push through the Health and Social Care bill.
Although it didn't appear in the Tory or LibDem manifestos, the NHS bill is the longest in its history, containing 1,000 new amendments, with the changes likely to 'destroy the NHS forever.'
Read more about the proosed changes here:
"What MPs must know before they vote to wreck the NHS
The Tories' ideologically driven NHS bill deserves a backlash. The Lords would be well within their rights to block it."
[Guardian 2nd Sept 2011]
"The NHS reforms still amount to privatisation
This bad bill will force hospitals to choose private over public care to make ends meet." [Guardian 6th Sept 2011]
Here's some photos from the protest.
At the stroke of 1pm, this banner was unfurled across the Westminster bridge.
Couldn't agree more.
