We enjoy a fantastic walking holiday around the Isle of Purbeck

The first big walk of 2009, and it was a fabulous one!
Thanks to Bee, we were found a perfect base for exploring the beautiful countryside and rugged coastlines around the Isle of Purbeck, and were staying at The David Donald Field Studies Base, Worth Matravers in Dorset.
The 1940 ex-RAF radar base is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the base offers loads of room with 24 beds and a large living area - and there's a fantastic cider bar not faraway in the nearby village of Worth Matravers.
The weather down was horrible at times, and every weather website we looked at predicted a weekend of relentless rain.
Despite the forecast, the weather was sunny when we arrived, albeit a bit windy and cold. But that's got to be better than a faceful of rain!
Sunset from the base.
A view of the accommodation.
The essentials are stocked up.
The base had a fantastic wood-fired stove.
Saturday morning, and the crew pose before setting off on the walk.
Leaving the base.
Note the 'pint of beer' symbol pointing to the nearest pub. What better way to motivate walkers?!
Corfe Castle in the distance, rising above the Isle of Purbeck.
A steam train bound for Corfe Castle passes in the distance. Lovely.
Old fridge offering free range eggs with 'honesty box' inside.
Aaaiee! Jumping over a large bog.
Walking across Corfe Common.
Friendly donkey.
