Into Worth Matravers, Dorset
Our walk ends in a feast of delicious cider at the Square and Compass!
(Photos/words © urban75, 15th-16th May, 2009)

After our 13 mile walk, we were nurturing an industrial sized thirst for cider, so we were lucky that the trek ended at one of the finest cider bars in Britain!

The Square and Compass, is a legendary Dorset pub, run by the Newman family for over a century.

Serving up award winning beers and ciders - including home pressed traditional cider made by the owner - this is a gem of a traditional country pub, free from any garish modern trappings.

There's no bar as such in the pub - instead there's just a serving hatch in a corridor.

The beer selection is written on to paper plates stuck around the hatch.

The low beamed 'lounge.' The pub puts on regular live gigs, with Offline favourites the Hightown Crows playing the week after we left, and Endorse-It organisers, the excellent Pronghorn being regulars.

We came back later that night. Playing on the cramped stage in a packed pub was a band called The Blessing.

There was a terrific atmosphere inside - we loved this pub!

The parish church of St. Nicholas of Myra at Worth Matravers. First built around 1100 and retaining the proportions of the 12th century structure, the church has been altered and extended over time before getting the inevitable Victorian makeover in 1869.

Originally constructed from rubble and subsequently strengthened by the Normans with buttresses, the tower retains an attractive appearance.
