Brixton Scala, 1914
Advertisement from the Brixton Free Press in 1914 showing enormous queues lining up to get in to the Brixton Scala Cinema Theatre on 101, Brixton Hill.
Opening in 1911, the theatre offered 'continuous performances from 2.30-11pm, with seats costing from 3d to 1/- (1.5p to 5p.
In latter years, the auditorium was demolished (except for parts of its walls which can be seen from the side roads) and the building was used as a
camping shop and, more recently, a restaurant.
