Then and Now: Norwood Road, Herne Hill
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
c. 1950 With Brockwell Park to the left, a No. 48 tram joins Norwood Road, headed for West Norwood. On the far right, you can just see part of the elevated Herne Hill railway signal box. Note the old pram by the park.

April 2003 Fifty years on, and steadily increasing traffic has resulted in the road being widened (or should that read, 'pavements being shrunk'?!) and the cobbled road surface replaced by smooth tarmac. Overhead, the distinctive signal box has bitten the dust, while the railway bridge has been rebuilt and stripped of its large enamel advertising hoardings.
