Then and Now: Milkwood Rd/Lowden Road, Herne Hill
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
c. 1910 Taken before the First World War, this view shows a West Norwood tram on its way to Somerset House via Loughborough Junction. Note the track diverting to the right - trams going in the opposite direction took a slight detour down Lowden Road.

April 2003 The entire left side of Milkwood Road has become an ugly, faceless industrial estate, while the house has lost its flamboyant chimneys! Further down the road you can see that several houses have been demolished, while a huge tree has sprung up in Lowden Road. Buses replaced the trams before all public transport services along Milkwood Road were withdrawn in Dec 1966.
