Then and Now: Coldharbour Lane and Gresham Road
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
1950 Tram turning off Coldharbour Lane into Gresham Road. Brixton was once served by a fine network of trams, running in all directions, with a major depot up the road in Camberwell. The trams finally ended in 1952 but it's not all bad news - Transport for London have proposed a new tram route into Brixton (update 2011 - this looks unlikely now)!
Also of interest is the sign for the Loughborough Park Tavern pub to the right, one of Brixton's many lost pubs. Formerly known as the Royal Veteran, details of the pub have proved frustratingly elusive.

April 2003 Although the house remains, just every other aspect of the scene has changed - but the phone box is still there, replaced by a modern design. The entire area to the right has been flattened and replaced by the brutalist Barrier Block, while the pub is but a distant memory.
