Then and Now: Coldharbour Lane
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
c1910 Horse drawn carts and a solitary tram can be seen in the this view of Coldharbour Lane, taken near the junction with Denmark Road (mid way between Brixton and Camberwell). The road was described as a "dismal thoroughfare" in Harry William's 1949 "South London" book.

May 2003 Despite much of the area around Coldharbour Lane being extensively redeveloped, these fine Jacobean-style Edwardian buildings remain in good condition. This shot was almost impossible to line up as the original photograph had been taken in the middle of the road - and things have got a little busier this century!
