Then and Now: Corner of Acre Lane and Brixton Road
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
c. 1912 Looking west along Acre Lane from the corner of Brixton Road, you can see Town Hall to the left with the premises of Isaac Walton opposite, a large firm of tailors, hatters and hosiers.

May 2003 Sadly, Isaac Walton's store has been replaced by a ghastly McDonalds, but the Town Hall is still with us, extended in 1938. A modern building further down the road to the right marks the site of Lambeth Mission's 'Ideal Cinema' cinema, an congregation-boosting ruse which was completely flattened in the Second World War.
