Then and Now: Electric Avenue by Atlantic Rd
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
August 1960 Shoppers stroll under the iron canopies of Electric Avenue in this 1960s view, taken facing Atlantic Road. The canopies to the right are emblazoned with the name, 'David Greig' while a Millers Bread bakery van can be seen to the left.
On this sunny summer's day, The Shadows 'Apache' was number one in the pop charts.

Nov 2003 Garish plastic awnings have replaced the elegant cast-iron canopies, although the fine original buildings survive. The low-level railway bridge no longer advertises 'Colliers - Brixton's Finest Furnishing Store' and the high level bridge has been replaced.
