Then and Now: Brixton Hill by St Saviours Road
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
1910 Looking north down Brixton Hill towards central Brixton you can see a fine set of shop awnings. The junction with St Saviours Road is on the left with Corpus Christi Catholic Church in the distance. The fourth shop on the left sports a 'Victoria Wines' sign and further down the road you can just see the sign for the White Horse Hotel.

Feb 2004 The tranquil scene of 1910 seems a world away as Brixton Hill echoes to the relentless roar of traffic thundering up and down the hill. All the shop awnings have vanished, but the off licence remains, now owned by Irish convenience store chain, Mace. The White Horse remains a popular bar, now licensed till 1am (See our Brixton bar guide)
