Then and Now: Windmill pub, Blenheim Gardens
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
1969 A wintery view of the faux-Elizabethan Windmill public house on the corner of Blenheim Gardens and Bartley Road. Note the large 'Courage Ales' illuminated sign above the entrance and the 'Lyons Cakes' advertisement on the front of the adjacent shop. By this time, much of the surrounding area had already been demolished.

Feb 2004 A huge redevelopment programme between 1968-1972 swept away much of the local building for social housing - even Bartley Road vanished off the map for good! There's no denying that the new Windmill pub is unlikely to be troubled by architectural awards, but inside the pub's a real gem, hosting some of the finest live music/club nights in Brixton.
