Then and Now: Station Road café
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
Nov 2000 The declining market trade along Brixton Station Road finally made its mark on Johns Café, and by the end of November 2000 it had served its last customer. Interestingly, this is one of the few buildings to have survived the huge redevelopment along the north side of Station Road in the 1970s - you can just see it in this picture
In the 60s, the cafe was known as Rose's cafe.
Dec 2003 Three years later and the café has been replaced by the 'South Central Business Advice Centre' (whatever that is). The street market continues to recede along the road, with very few stalls trading past Pope's Road.
