Then and Now: 'Alfie' film scene, Atlantic Rd
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
1966 Michael Caine in the role of 'Alfie' walks up Atlantic Road towards Coldharbour Lane.
Electric Avenue is to the left, while a sign under the railway bridge proclaims, 'Shop At Victor Value'. The shop to the right of Caine appears to be a shoe shop.
Note the original, elegant railway bridge and red phone boxes underneath.
Brixton would be familiar to Caine - he grew up in 14 Urlwin St, Camberwell and lived in a flat up Brixton Hill for a while.
Nov 2005 No sign of Michael Caine in this winter view looking north along Atlantic Road, 39 years later.
The bridge has been completely rebuilt and a slap of paint has gone on the curved concrete pillars supporting Brixton railway station overhead.
