Brixton trams: Brixton Road
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
August 1907 New connecting lines to Stockwell Road and Gresham Road being installed on Brixton Road.
The process of excavating the ground and laying the rails was massively labour-intensive with very little machinery in sight.
To the left you can see the side of the Black Horse pub, serving Watney's Ales, with a poster advertising claret at 4/6.
28th Oct 2007 A damp autumn view reveals some fairly modern rebuilding on the left.
The Black Horse pub closed years ago and is now a branch of the Halifax Building Society. Once again, the streets have become far more cluttered with road signs, traffic lights and estate agent boards.
August 1907 Another shot taken a little further down Brixton Road.
