Brixton trams: Brixton Road

March, 1952 A number 33 tram headed for Kingsway Subway and Essex Road approaches the junction of Brixton Road and Stockwell Road.
To the left, you can see part of the neon sign for Hepworths, the Gents tailors.
By the early fifties, time was running out for the trams, with the tracks being ripped up a few weeks after this photo was taken.
28th Oct 2007 Fifty-five years on and much has changed in Brixton Road.
The rebuilt Hepworths store now hosts the 'Travel Zone' baggage store, while Grey's Television and Radio store has long vanished - like the Stones Television & Radio store on nearby Atlantic Road.
