Then and Now: Opening of Town Hall extension
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
14th Oct 1938 Crowds pack Acre Lane to see the arrival of Queen Mary for the opening ceremony of the Town Hall extension. A sign above the entrance reads, 'Lambeth Civic Week. Box Office 9am - 10pm'. To the far left you can see the tower of the Brixton Theatre.

Sept 2003 The bunting has all gone but the building remains in fine condition. The extension is now known as the Assembly Halls, and hosts local events, meetings and exhibitions (see Destination Brixton review).
