Then and Now: 506-8 Brixton Road, central Brixton
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
1910 The Brixton Road shop frontage of W.G.Seammen, ladies' and children's mantle maker, outfitter and furrier. This image is taken from a contemporary advertisement which hoped that their 'skirts and blouses in the newest materials and boas in all the latest and most fashionable shapes' would attract the purses of passing Edwardian ladies.

Jan 2004 I'm not sure what an Edwardian lady would make of the garish facade of the 'Speedy Noodle' fast food 'restaurant', but at £2.80 a meal, she couldn't knock the value! Despite the eye popping sign, much of the original building detail remains intact (the floor above is used by the Brixton Community Law Centre). Curiously, both photos have the same upstairs window slightly open!
