Then and Now: Boots the chemists, Brixton Road
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
c 1938 A view of Timothy Whites & Taylors chemists at Number 1, Electric Avenue. This view was taken from Brixton Road, shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War. Timothy Whites & Taylors were a household name in Britain with hundreds of branches all over the country.

Jan 2004 The 622 stores of Timothy Whites & Taylors were acquired by Boots in 1968. The Brixton store remains intact, although you can just see a missing chunk of Electric Avenue to the far left, a victim of WW2 bombing. The large window display facing Electric Avenue has now been boarded up. Being an 'early closing' Wednesday, the fruit and veg stall is packing up early - normally Electric Avenue is packed with stalls and shoppers.
