Then and Now: Brixton Road by Thornton Street
Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
c 1921 Looking north up Brixton Road, the nearest building to the camera is W H Cullen, grocery store (nearest to camera), sporting some fine brickwork decorated with an advert for Birds's Sponge Cakes. The distinctive frontage of Eagle Printing Works can be seen next door. The next shop down is Doughartys House Furnishers and Furniture Manufacturers, situated at no 300, Brixton Road.

June 2003 The grocery store has now become 'Overseas Transfers' (whatever that is) and the impressive brickwork sadly painted over. Next door, the Eagle Printing Works building looks in fine repair, while the furniture store is now the Baytree Centre, training disadvantaged women.
