Photographic comparisons of old and modern views of Lambeth
1910 Brixton Road, Brixton, looking north from Effra Road, 1910. Up until the 1870s, Brixton was mainly residential with shops concentrated in Coldharbour Lane and Atlantic Road. By the turn of the century, Brixton Road had become a bustling shopping centre.

April 2003 93 years on and Brixton Road has become a busy and noisy thoroughfare, with the department store on the left being turned into a ghastly McDonalds.
